Tuesday Finds

"Who Do You Think You Are?" returns Sunday, July 26 at 9/8c this time I am so going to watch this series.

I just got through reading this book on the Kindle The ABCs of Gravestone Symbols:  Every Gravestone Tells a Story and within this book there is a website that lists gravestones symbols & their meanings. There is also a photo of the symbols. This book was great as it will help me next time I go looking through cemeteries.

Another book I started reading is 500 Best Genealogy & Family History Tips by Thomas MacEntee great resources in this book I am recommending this one.

My favorite book Gone with the Wind was published today, June 30, 1936. I own a VHS, DVD and the book. When the movie came back out this past summer I took my nanny who saw the movie when it first came out.

Medical Terms through the Ages

We all have that term we write down from the death certificate and think dear heavens what is this..well mine was Brain fever and it was written on the death certificate. I was thinking maybe it could be they died of a really high fever. No, that was not it. It meant something else. Brain fever is actually – see meningitis, typhus.

Often times we google these terms and come up with many different sites and think should we use this one or that one. Well so far I have used Genealogy Quest with all the people I have terms for and it is more then just terms to just look up they are actually interesting to read.

My Heritage

Today I got an amazing call. I was not expecting one just a normal day. I answered my phone and it was customer service for MyHeritage and I was thinking how odd for them to call me, maybe something is wrong with my account. No, nothing was wrong with my account they were calling to let me know since I had changed some things my account was good and wanted to let me know if I needed anything to email them with questions or call them.  I thought how awesome!! It is not everyday someone calls and lets you know you are appreciated. So thank you MyHeritage for making my day!

Yes, I am going to recommend you to others to add their tree to your site just because you made me feel special.

Ancestor's footsteps

My friends are out to make history and memories in Oklahoma. Walking in their Ancestor's footsteps by making a Pioneer Trek. This actually sounds fun. My friends are going to be the Ma & Pa for eight teenager's. Memories are going to be made along the way. I can't wait to hear about the fun they had in four days.

I know it isn't anything what happened in the middle of 1850's but how fun to imagine the things your great great x5 grandparents did at that time. Also to wear the clothes your ancestors did at this time. I think I am more excited to tell about what you are doing then anyone!!

Have fun my friends and hope to hear fun stories!

Today is Flag Day

Today is Flag Day. What does that mean to you?

This day started back in 1885 by a man named BJ Cigrand, a schoolteacher in Fredonia, Wisconsin.

Observance of the Flag is the week of June 14th and this is called "National Flag Week".

Here is something I didn't know (The National Flag Day Foundation holds an annual observance for Flag Day on the second Sunday in June. The program includes a ceremonial raising of the national flag, the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, the singing of the national anthem, a parade and more.)

I will be flying my flag this morning.

Tuesday Tips-Multiple Photos

Oh you know you take a million photos when you are out and about walking the cemetery looking for that relative you have been searching for and you stumble upon someone you think you might be related to or think "hey I think I have heard that name before".

If you are like most of us you have a smart phone and have 700-1,000 photos on your phone and wonder where you can get these photos downloaded or printed.  Well for the past two years I have been using Groovebook to download mine.
So if you use this coupon you could get a free book and "Free is good right"?
The photos are of good quality and are perforated and come with the date and time you take the photo. You get 100 photos, 4.5" x 6.5" photobook a monthYour first book is free with this coupon and after that it is $2.99. I think this is a great deal.
I usually tear mine out and give them to family members.  Most of mine go to our Genealogical Society as well.

Motivation Monday--Time is all I have

It is Monday, and I have been making a small dent in my collection of papers..I have decided to make a book for both of my children in my own handwriting with family group sheets. and a Pedigree Chart.

I am sure we all have a place that looks like this but won't show it. Or is it just me?

Friends we meet on our journey of life

Last night a good friend passed away. I know I haven't actually seen him since I graduated from the junior college I went to, but I did keep in contact with him. When I first met him I was shy and didn't say much to anyone. I looked up to him. I went to him and talked to him about everything and he kept it a secret. I am sure he heard everything in the world from everyone. He was like everyone's dad/friend when our's were not there. If that makes any sense at all.
I remember one time we were coming back from Colorado and when I turned around in my seat to look out the window you were on the same road we were on coming home. You smiled and waved at me. This made my day cause I thought what a small world because it could have been anyone but it was someone I actually knew on the same road. I am glad I got to meet you in my life. I will see you again my friend. Until then rest well.
